Your checklist for a professional piercing set-up!
Looking (hopefully) not too far ahead to when we can resume piercing services, we have put together a super handy checklist to make sure that when we get the green light, you are good to go – safely and confidently!
Our training programme has always excelled at demonstrating the highest standards of hygiene and best practice to ensure safety for both our piercing partners and their customers. We are continually reviewing our processes and, like most businesses, have made some updates to our best practice.
Whether you are looking to launch a piercing service or wanting to check that you have everything in place for reopening, below is your comprehensive guide to what your work area should have. Please remember that we are here to guide you and offer any support:
Make sure that your piercing area is spacious enough to allow room for you to comfortably pierce and to allow social distancing when conducting the consultation.
You need to make sure you have flat, clean surfaces to be able to lay out your equipment safely. This needs to be easy to wipe and clean before and after each piercing and should have enough room for all equipment.
Have a safe and comfortable chair or high-backed stool that you can clean before and after every piercing. A salon couch is also perfectly fine if easy to clean! Adjustable seating is the best so that you can move the seat up and down to accommodate customers of all ages and heights.
A pedal bin is needed near the piercing station to dispose of all waste – it should be emptied and lined with a fresh bin liner every day!
Cleaning of hands prior to piercing is increasingly important. Most local authorities in the UK now require easy access to running water for hand washing before gloves are donned. Antibacterial hand gel can also be used alongside hand washing, but not in place of.
Key equipment that you need for the process:
Hard surface cleaner and paper towels for cleaning the top of the work area and chair/stool pre and post piercing
Alcohol skin cleansing pads – we suggest having a few available as they are needed for cleaning the instrument(s) and in case you need to clean the ear several times when marking. TIP: Remember that once you have cleaned the skin, do not allow your customer to touch the area
Vinyl / Nitrile disposable gloves. They should be single use and changed if you need to move away from the station or remove anything from the piercing station
As additional measures, piercers are required to wear a mask and a visor
Mirror for the customer to check the markings before piercing and showing off new bling afterwards
After care solution – Studex Advanced or the standard After Piercing Solution. If you are including as part of the service, you can apply to the new piercing gently on a cotton pad / gauze straight after the piercing
We have everything you need equipment wise to be offering the highest quality service, so speak with one of our customer service team today if there is anything you need or any queries you have.
