Which system is recommended for Nose Piercing?

The Medisept Nose Piercing System is the most innovative Nose Piercing system available and the product we would recommend when piercing noses. Recognised by local health authorities, the patented design it easy to use, load and maintain without the need for an autoclave and piercing needles. Medisept offers sterile, touch free loading and full control and accuracy to ensure ease of piercing.

What regulations do I need to be aware of before I can offer piercing as a service?

In preparation for offering a piercing service, within the UK you will require a Licence/Registration from your local council. Most councils will have a dedicated Piercing Application section on their website where you can find further information. Please note all councils have different requirements for businesses in their area to offer piercing. Currently, there are no such application processes in the Republic of Ireland.
We would also recommend that you make enquires with regards to your insurance to ensure you are covered to offer the service.
If you need any guidance and support with these requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

What equipment do I need to carry out a piercing service?

To carry out a professional piercing service we would recommend a dedicated ‘Piercing area’ within your premises. The System 75 and Medisept Nose Piercing Starter Kits include the Piercing equipment, jewellery, after care products and cleaning equipment you need to get started.

You will also require the following:

  • An adjustable Stool/Chair for your customer.
  • A wipeable, flat surface for your Kit to be displayed to carry out the piercing
  • Storage for your piercing equipment.
  • A pedal bin.
  • Hairclips, Mirror, Cotton Wool pads.

We are able to supply key equipment or point you in the right direction of reliable suppliers.
Depending on your premises and access to running water, it may be necessary for you to have a mobile sink. Again, we can help you as you prepare to set up your service.

What areas of the ear can I pierce with the Studex system?

With the Studex System 75 and Studex Plus systems, you will be able to pierce the lobe and the Upper flat cartilage area of the ear. During your training session your Trainer will be able to show the areas you can and can’t pierce.

Aftercare

What do I need to do to look after my Ear Piercing?

Wash hands thoroughly before touching the jewellery or ear.
Cleanse the front and back of the ear 2 to 3 times a day with your chosen Studex Aftercare solution. While cleaning, rotate the jewellery 2 to 3 times, 180° left and 180° right i.e. half a turn only, thus avoiding hair wrapping around the post at the back of the ear.  In between cleaning, the ear should be kept dry.  Moving the jewellery carefully is important for safe healing.
Keep hairspray, soap, shampoo, and other preparations away from the ear.   After shampooing, the ear should be rinsed with clear water and then cleansed with your Studex aftercare product.
Do not remove earrings or handle unnecessarily.
Do not push the butterfly along the post towards the ear.  The butterfly must always be positioned at the tip of the post, exactly where it is straight after the piercing.  Feel the position each time you clean the ear – it must feel smooth.  This ensures that the earring remains loose during the healing period and reduces the risk of swelling or discomfort post piercing, allowing air to circulate.

What do I need to do to look after my Nose Piercing?

Wash hands thoroughly before touching the jewellery or nose.
Apply Studex After Piercing Lotion to the nose up to 3 times per day, outside only with a Cotton Wool Pad / non fibrous pad. While cleaning, rotate the nose stud 2 to 3 times, 180° left and 180° right i.e. half a turn only.
Ensure cosmetics, make-up and other preparations are kept away from the nose and take care while sleeping and when removing clothes over the head.
After showering, or swimming, bathe the nose immediately.
The nose stud is not to be removed or handled unnecessarily.

How long do I need to keep my piercing jewellery in for?

If using the Studex ADVANCED Piercing Aftercare clean for 3 weeks for the ear lobe and 8 weeks for the upper flat cartilage carefully before removing jewellery.
If using the Studex After Piercing Lotion; 6 weeks continuously for the ear lobe, 12 weeks for the upper flat cartilage and a minimum of 8 weeks for the nose.
Remember once you have removed the jewellery, you will need to clean the site thoroughly and continue to wear hypoallergenic jewellery continuously to prevent the piercing from closing.
We recommend using straight post (not curved) earrings continuously for the first 6 months from piercing.

Can I take the jewellery out before the healing period?

Removing the jewellery too soon could affect the healthy healing of your piercing and you may struggle to reposition after removing. The recommended guidelines are based on four decades of experience so trust us, we know what is best for your piercing. If you are looking to change earrings quicker, Studex ADVANCED is your Aftercare Solution of choice.

Will my jewellery fall out?

On piercing, Studex earrings connect automatically with the butterfly to keep the earrings in place. Locked into a special ‘notch’, the butterfly is designed to stay in place and not move up and down the post therefore keeping cleaning easy and helping healing. It is important that you do not move the safety butterfly along the post.
The traditional butterfly back is preferred by Studex due to its easiness to clean and ability to prevent dirt and bacteria from collecting, thus reducing any chances of infection. After healing, the butterflies can be removed. If they appear a little stiff, simply apply solution and twist to ease before releasing.
The design and positioning of the Medisept nose piercing studs ensure that the slightly flared post keep the jewellery in place for the healing period.

Can I go swimming and do exercise with my new piercing?

Due to the nature of ear and nose piercing, exposure of newly pierced areas to certain environments such as swimming, and participation in certain athletic events (exercising) may increase the likelihood of infection. We would advise against swimming, saunas, hot tubs for the first 48 hours. If you do, for example, go swimming sooner, ensure you clean the piercing thoroughly.
The piercing area should be cleansed with Studex Aftercare product then kept dry, especially after bathing, swimming, or exercise.

General

Do you pierce with a ‘gun’?

We call the equipment used to pierce the ears and nose an ‘instrument’ rather than a ‘gun’. Our piercing systems are FDA approved medical devices, manufactured to the highest standards in the USA. You can confidently offer a safe, gentle and sterile piercing service with Studex.

Can I pierce babies and toddlers’ ears?

Babies and toddlers’ ears can be pierced using the Studex Piercing Systems. Our recommendation for piercing children is System 75 as it is quiet and gentle plus your Starter Kit contains two instruments for the option of dual piercing if preferred. With System 75, you can also pierce with Gold to make that first piercing all the more special. Your Studex Trainer will cover infant piercing if you are looking to offer the service, with you deciding your own age limits.

What earrings can I wear after the healing period is over?

Based on the recommended healing guidelines, when the time comes to change your earrings, the pierced area will need to be cleaned thoroughly and we recommend continuing to wear hypoallergenic jewellery continuously to prevent the piercing from closing.
We recommend using straight post (not curved) earrings continuously for the first 6 months from piercing.
Studex ADVANCED Piercing Aftercare is great to continue to clean the new piercing site, even after you change your earrings and can be used to clean jewellery posts as well before wearing.
Studex has a fantastic selection of hypoallergenic post piercing jewellery. After the healing period, it is important you choose a safe pair of earrings, so look no further than Studex Sensitive and Tiny Tips ranges. Earrings You Can Trust™.

Can I pierce the cartilage with the Studex Systems?

The Upper Flat Cartilage areas of the ear can be pierced with either the System 75 or Studex Plus Systems. There is no medical evidence to suggest a greater risk to the cartilage area whether pierced with an instrument or a needle. You can confidently pierce the upper flat cartilage area with your Studex piercing system.
If this is a service you are looking to offer, your Studex Trainer will take you through the key steps and considerations and also ask you to do a practice piercing on the day to check techniques. The cartilage area requires a longer healing period due to reduced blood flow in the area and thorough aftercare is key to minimise the risk of any issues. Studex ADVANCED Piercing Aftercare is a great way to look after your cartilage piercing!
