Key points to remember when re-opening your piercing business
As part of our Getting Business Ready campaign, created to arm Studex customers with all the information and assets needed to safely re-open, we’re sharing our best practice tips on ensuring you create a safe and welcoming environment for your employees and customers.
In the wake of COVID-19, more than ever, customers are looking for reassurances that they can enjoy the same professional service in a safe and hygienic setting. Piercing, like many services, will certainly look a little different with clear visors and face coverings an addition to standard PPE so ensure it is still a welcoming environment.
Make sure you communicate clearly with your customers, ensuring they know all of the safety procedures including that of the piercing system and how the earrings are pre-sterilised.
Set up a booking system to allow customers to book appointments. This will ensure you have enough time and space for adequate social distancing.
The piercing area is a professional work area, easy to clean before and after every piercing. Hygiene is at the forefront of everyone’s minds, so make sure you demonstrate this to your customers to reassure them.
Consider having your piercing certificates on display to show customers your qualifications, putting their minds at ease.
Display licences / registrations from your local council so that customers are confident that the premises have been approved for piercing.
For piercing children’s ears, you still need to display the correct hygiene standards however when explaining processes to a child, use simple and clear language that keeps them calm and confident. Make sure they also sanitise their hands before and after the service.
When explaining the process to both children and parents, don’t go into too much detail about the physical piercing but do talk about what you are going to do in simple terms, such as they fact that we always wash our hands, wear gloves, check the ear, clean it, make a dot and show you before we do anything!
Rather than focus solely on the piercing itself, promote the full experience from consultation through to looking at the range of earrings and choosing the right pair that complement their style and budget. Even during times of change and maybe uncertainty, piercing should still be a lovely experience that every customer remembers.
Promote your aftercare service and communicate how as a business you remain available to support your customers and any queries they may have.
For children, Studex has a range of additional marketing pieces such as stickers, Super Brave Kids Certificates and teddy bears! These are a fantastic addition to your service and really help to create a celebratory experience for families.
As well as making sure that the parents are confident and happy with what is going to happen, make sure you also speak with the child to make sure they are relaxed. Explain that it is as pain free as can be and will feel like a little pinch rather than hurt.
Talk about the earring choice and help them choose special ones for a first piercing! Studex have presentation boxes that your business could offer as a keepsake for the first piercings.
